Silverlight, 1 year later, it will be a failure?

I read a very interesting article in http://visualrinse.com where the post explains why that Silverlight will be a failure. Although I have been impressed by the Silverlight, I have to admit that really the Silverlight is not as much as you're watching this on net .... And yet there are few developers.

This article talks about some interesting points that I will pass well to comment / translate / list:

Without FDI:

At this time, yet there is only one way to build Silverlight content: Windows. If you compare them to me with his latest contender, the Flex, can be compiled on any platform.

Without Plugin on Linux:

Once again, Microsoft is doing is "great" and literally broken Linux users who do not have a plug-in for Linux. Apart from this non-proprietary and that does not support mp3 or video.

Market penetration:

Currently there is not even any data, and that there are very dubious, on the penetration of plug-in "market".

Market growth of content for mobile phone / PDA 's:

I, like the author, although I am not very familiar with the development for portable devices / pda 's. It seems that Microsoft announced the Silverlight mobile, but a year later still nothing is known ....

Maturity:

How is a new technology, yet little mature, so few developers and a few supporters, moreover code is closed and little support from the community of programmers.

Competition:

CS3, only 3 letters that mark all the difference, Microsoft still has no competitor to match, neither seems to be thinking about it. Its main competitor is Adobe, without any doubt that the announcement of Silverlight shaking came in thinking of adobe, which launches releases behind it and releases end up a little to stifle dissemination of Silverlight, will be the goal?

We will wait, because this competition is always healthy, and hope that Microsoft changes its policy, but I do not see the good side of the seas for Silverlight, even more now with the new announcement of Flash Player 10 and its estrondosas characteristics.

Some Microsoft programs Silverlight for this part?

Some sites support?

Come those answers.

Hug.

Mario, I want to leave here also recorded the other side of the coin.

Recently in a chat with Flex developers, to which participated Iike Igor (www.igorcosta.com), a pioneering developer here in Brazil and partner of Adobe, it became clear the dissatisfaction of the community of Flex developers about the lack of marketing actions Adobe's Flex to leverage the platform between the companies.

We all know that MS is a master's degree in marketing, which sell their solutions as "the new wheel" and "the evolution of the fire." Even if we developers well informed, know the wonder that is the Flex, companies do not know. For them whatever, counting that works and lives MS doing seminars for companies to show their stuff. It has a team of developers aggressive, which literally stick in the company until she buys something.

When I was working in Vivo, I heard a rumor that Adobe Brazil was taking more than 20 days for free licenses to use the Flex Builder. That bought for versions, not educational! I heard from reliable sources that this information was true of 90% and that left me worried, because the issuance of a license to use is something to be done online, after proof of payment.

This whole story left me worried, because for me to sell my product, my know-how in Flex, we need to know the technology companies and let them know how revolutionary it is, something that MS does very well, even without having to such technology.

    A big hug,

    Ved

    ERRATA:

In "It has a team of developers aggressive, which literally stick in the company until she buys something" read: "sellers" and not "developers"

There is a side of the coin that had not become aware, although Adobe has already begun to do many seminars, many of them targeted at businesses, which enjoy the estratégoa Microsoft might be better (though the unknown and the relationship silvelight) ... but it is a good point of view ... but still I think the evolution of Silverlight will be slower ... let's see :)
